Linzy-Jane & The Spiders From Mars

"Right here and now, as an old friend used to say, we are in the fluid present, where clear-sightedness never guarantees perfect vision." - Stephen King

Here: in Dorian, a valley in Southern California, where the morning sun touches the river and reflects a perfect picture of the surrounding spring flowers.

Now: an early Monday morning in mid-may. Right here and now, the hour is just past eight A.M., and the sun stands high in the cloudless western sky.

Linzy-Jane is faced with her shadow as she stands in front of the bathroom mirror. What she sees is pleasing, but not pleasing enough. The eyeliner and mascera from the previous night is caked around her razor gray eyes, her most unusual feature if it wasn't for her lavander-colored hair.
